The Treeview control wants to select its first item when it gains focus for the first time (after the application starts running) via a mouse-click whether the user clicked on the first item or a different item. If the user did not select the first item, then the control incorrectly generates two "select" events, one for the first item, and another one for the actual item that the user clicked on.
The .NET Treeview control does not exhibit this behavior.
