As well as the other reasons, another advantage of this is that it reduces the IO per-transfer overhead from everything between the syscall layer and the disk, and probably reduces the fragmentation and seek contention for later reads. This is a very good tip. I'm not sure of the detailed impact on sqlite, but I do the equivalent thing with postgresql on a regular basis, and it's certainly worth pursuing. -- Dan.
