I never used the mtn:// protocol myself (always sticked to the legacy
method), but NEWS states it's available since 0.40... what's happening?

I think it's that the URI handling is broken such that when it goes to ask for the host's IP address it doesn't strip off the scheme. Should be fixed in current head.
