Ah, that question mark shouldn't be there.  That's an editing typo, my
fault.  Please use the following command (see the difference?):

$ mtn --db=mtn.db clone mtn://monotone.ca/monotone "net.venge.monotone*" \
      -b net.venge.monotone monotone
