No previous acting experience is necessary. While no men are allowed to appear onstage, both women and men are invited to join the planning committee and help out backstage. Dates and a location for two performances in February will be announced soon. V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop worldwide violence against women and girls including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sexual slavery. In its first seven years, the V-Day movement has raised more than $25 million. The V-Day Worldwide Campaign strives to empower women to find their collective voices and demand an end to the epidemic levels of violence and abuse in their communities around the world. Through benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" on or around V-Day (February 14th) they raise money and awareness to stop violence against women and girls. The proceeds from these events are donated directly to local organizations in the community that are working to stop this violence.

This year's local beneficiary of "The Vagina Monologues" performances is the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault's prevention education program. The Center Against Sexual Assault is Arizona's oldest and largest provider of comprehensive sexual violence services and has been providing prevention education to area youth for twenty years. The production will also raise money and bring attention this year to the plight of the women of Iraq, who suffer fewer freedoms today even as their country moves toward self-governance.
