American military 'brats' of all ethnicities share intimate memories
about their strange, but fascinating, childhoods - growing up on
military bases around the world, then struggling to fit into an
America with which they have little in common, but for whom they
sacrificed their youths. Singer/songwriter and Air Force brat Kris
Kristofferson leads us through the heart of their experiences with
fellow brats General Norman Schwarzkopf and author Mary Edwards
Wertsch. Their stories reveal the peculiar landscape of their
childhood, the culture that binds them together, and the power it
exerts over the adults they become. A six-year work of passion by
independent filmmaker Donna Musil, BRATS features songs by Kris
Kristofferson and rare archival footage, photographs, and home movies
from post-war Japan and Germany.
BRATS director Donna Musil will be on hand at this special screening
to introduce the film and host a post-film discussion and Q&A about
the culture of the American military brat.
