Murray, I attach the shrouds while the mast is still in the mast carrier.
Move the foot of the mast to the mast step and put in the pin. I attach the jib halyard to the bow rail. Walk the mast upright( lots of ways to do this) Take the strain on the Jib halyard and cleat it off.
