Hi Jerry:

A couple years ago, after some discussion on this
list, I called Royce and he made an M15 Tiller for me
one foot longer than the stock tiller (1984). The
primary benefit has been the ability to sit one foot
forward which has added much appreciated stability
when going to weather without feeling awkward. The
tiller and rudder still can be stored below without
any difficulty.

The additional lenghth hasn't hindered opening the
cockpit lockers. Although I sail single-handed I
don't think the additional lenghth will make it too
crowded with crew. However, I wouldn't recommend
adding more than a foot.

I've often wondered how you determined the proper
length of the tiller, in the first place.
