I have the 4-horse, 4-stroke Nissan (Tohatsu) with the internal tank and optional generator ... It has always seemed plenty powerful for my M17 ... It's a nice motor. Starts easily, runs quietly. I have read it's not as evolved as the Honda or Suzuki, but it's everything I need and probably less expensive than Honda and Suzuki. Would think they would be similar to Honda. As I recall, the 4 HP Tohatsu, which is adequate for an M17, has the option of an internal tank for on/off the slip or external for longer trips. Get a low pitch, low speed prop. Given a choice though, I would buy from a local dealer so you can get service. You may want to show them the price if it's far apart, but service is worth something. If you buy online, then take it to a local dealer for service, he may not be too concerned about your problem.
