I have not contributed anything this year but have read most of the postings. I apologize for the absence.
I left work early to go for a sail and feel too good about it not to share my experience. The little 15 footer kicked some butt today, passing many 22 to 25 footers that only had a jib or a reefed main up cause it was blowing 12 to 15 with gust a little higher. I never heeled more than 20 or 25 degrees, feathered and dumped the main sail while not touching the jib. I have a lot of rake in the mast and the boat tended to round up before getting in too much trouble. I have now owned this 15 footer for 5 years and am still amazed at its performance. A light weight 18' daysailor and my Montgomery 15 went neck to neck for a half hour, each leaping ahead when conditions best suited each. I had a lengthy chat with the crew as we sailed within ten feet of each other. Sailors are easy people to talk to. It's 7 miles from my slip to the dike at Lake Wallenpaupak in the Pocono Mountain area in NE Pa. It's a North South lake and winds were out of the West. One tack was all that was needed each way. 3 hours round trip, exactly equal times 1.5 hours. At the dike there was a bald eagle that took a liking to my mast and did a full 360 glide just above mast height. This was the first time I ever saw a bald eagle and he gave me a front row seat.
