I purchased radials from a local tire dealer for "Really" and mounted them on my EZ loader trailer. Trailered 260 miles round trip to Lake Don Pedro a couple weeks ago and all went well.
Last Sunday morning I embarked on a 620 mile round trip to Trinity Lake, my last trip for the season. While driving at 60 mph north on Hwy 101 just south of San Mateo at 5am, the trailer started swaying. Before I could do a thing, sparks were flying and the entire port wheel disappeared into the black of night. Oh my god! I pulled over to the right hand shoulder, got out of the truck and couldn't see a thing except traffic speeding by at 70 plus. I called the CHP. Two patrol cars drove by shining spotlights in search of the wheel on the highway. It was not to be found. I had a spare but no lug nuts. I took two lug nuts off the starboard wheel and used them with the spare. I slowly drove to the next exit and parked in a Denny's parking lot. Couldn't find replacement lug nuts on a Sunday but was able to substitute nuts which I purchased at Orchard Supply Hardware, for the trip. Finally, got on the road at 11am. Had a wonderful five days of sailing on Trinity Lake. Be sure the lug nuts are seated properly. Check them a couple times after a few hours of towing. Take it from someone who learned the hard way.
