I had a Bolger Nymph for awhile. The same features that made it effortless
to row and tow---a narrow waterline----also made it tender. You had to be
careful getting in and out. Once you were settled down on the seat it was as
good a rowing tender as you could imagine. Bolger specified a 59-square-foot
sail for it, which gives you a sail area/displacement ratio that rivals an
International 14. I can't imagine staying upright for long. Relatively few
Nymphs are rigged for sail.
Bolger later acknowledged the tender's tenderness and drew up a new one,
"Reuben's Nymph," that was simply six inches wider, give or take. Those are
supposed to have the qualities of the original with none of the vices.
ALERT! ALERT! SHAMELESS PLUG! My Eastport Pram design----about 750
built---is 48" wide and pretty easy to build.
