For a short while when my 4 HP Sail Master wasn't working, I used a 42#
thrust Motor Guide trolling motor. With a hot battery, it would get her up
to about 3+ knots. I quit using it after a day when I could not get back
into my slip in 20 knot plus headwind with a weak battery that eventually
gave out. When the wind is blowing, you can always sail, but I'm not good
enough to short tack up 100 yards+ in the 50 feet or so between marina and
shore....then beam reach 50 yards, luff up and some somehow hit a tight slip
downwind....at least not single handed.....without doing some damage to boat
or dock.
