Thanks Bill and Howard,
I do have the boat shaped transducer, probably much like Howard's. It could
be the silicone I used (clear), not as rubbery as the white stuff that I
think Howard used. But after the silicone (sporadic reception) and silly
putty (no reception) the puck alone in the water only seemed to work about
half the time.
I called Garmin Technical Support yesterday who said it sounded like a main
unit/cable/transducer problem that must be checked out before they would
know for sure what it is. After going around a few times about not wanting
to undo my four hours of cable installation, the fellow agreed that they
could determine the problem by just checking the main unit. If the unit is
bad, they will replace it. If the unit is good, they'll replace the
cable/transducer.
Thanks for the help guys.
