I had the same question a month or so ago and got much assistance from
this 
group.  You should check those list.
If you have already permanently deleted them, I guess I could dig
through my 
deleted files and find at least some of the recommendations.

I ended up using roller bails at both ends, bolted through the boom and 
attached with the mast step bolt.  This was set as close to 45 degrees 
(equilateral triangle) as I could get.  I first made an eye strap
mounted on 
a sail track slug for the mast end that worked, but got in the way when 
trying to step the mast (lifted mast off deck so mast step bolt would
not 
fit).   Even the roller bail causes some problems when stepping the mast
if 
it's not positioned correctly.  I now think the line around the mast 
approach is the best solution.
