Ron,

I have the same solution on my 1982 Dilly trailer.? I had the first 2 ft cut
off of my tongue so that I can fit the trailer into the garage.? I then had an
8 ft extention made.? This gives me a net extention of 6 ft.? I use a '01 Jetta
TDI (same chasie as the A4) to tow my M15 and I don't have any problems.? I
also have a 1 1/2 inch receiver.? At the joint, the trailer does have a
tendancy to sag, but does not cause any real problems while launching or
retreaving.? I have my spare tire mounted next to the?joint and at times the
tire will hit?bottom, only where the ramp begins to sloop down.? With the
excepton of the?xtra time it takes to attach the extension, I am?happy with the
solution.?

Rick;
I'm delighted to see your post on your solution. I have made a similar item,
but have yet to use it. My concern is the leverage on my light 1 1/4" hitch.
My tow vehicle is a little, low Audi A4 with minimal rear overhang, and I've
proven that I need the extension by damaging my winch post and more trying to
crank my M-15 uphill against her will. My local welding shop genius has Mr.
Trail-Rite repaired and reinforced and ready for my upcoming outing.
I've wondered if some sort of support wheel might be a safety measure, or if
the trailer jack wheel might serve that purpose. I suppose that could cause
ramp problems. Anybody done that?
