I'll try to get some photos of Dauntless' arrangement today when we go down  
to her.  The previous owner did some mods to ours stove setup to allow  access 
below it for storage. The ice box actually forms the top step and is very  
large. We always get at least 20lbs of ice or the bottom of it isn't even  
covered. I would say the insulation is Ok but not fantastic and getting to it 
to  
get more in there looks difficult unless you installed the insulation on the  
inside of the box somehow. One nice feature is that the ice box bottom has a  
built in drain, which goes to a pump and then to a second spigot over the  
sink. A tiptoe foot-pump is original hardware. Labor intensive but no need for  
electrical power. I believe the volume of the box is 6 cubic feet, so there's  
lots of room for block ice for an extended cruise. Like all iceboxes, the 
fuller  it is the better it works. Dead air space seems to allow the ice to 
melt 
much  faster. I'll get those pics and email you offline.
