Tom,
I think having them on the coaming places the lead too far forward for  
anything other than a 135 or so. Not far enough forward for some of the smaller 
 
sails lead angles.
 
If they are lead to track on the deck below the windows - take the sheet  
from that lead location to the blocks normally located at the toerail next to  
the winch area then to the winch - a little more friction but at least the lead 
 
is 'fair' and located the same for the crew to deal with.
 
Send an e-mail to the Dr.M and see what he say.
