once you use silicone it's very iffy to try to get paint to stick to the
deck in the future (or bond something to it) if you every need some touchup
or repair done.  Use a polyurethane like 5200 or boatlife, and actually the
cartridges that you can buy at Home Depot work just fine.

We use to use silicone to bed the windows because it's available in clear
and is much easier to clean up the excess; PU takes a lot more scrubbing
which dulls the finish on the plastic windows.
