I registered yesterday as phils.2008 and want to introduce myself to the
group. I purchased "Oui-1," hull # 515, for me and my wife and we are
learning to sail it on Cave Run Lake, about one and one half hours east
of Lexington, KY. We are enjoying it immensely which is great since we
are taking up sailing now that we have hit our 70's. We are also doing
some projects on Oui-1 like installing cabin house and cockpit handrails
since our age makes us want more handholds. We have taken her out in
winds of 20 knots with gusts higher according to the weather bureau.
She sailed through it so nicely that she gave us confidence. We lucked
out by getting a couple to sail with us who have a lot of experience and
are teaching us about cruising and racing. The husband has crossed
oceans on sailboats, and the wife has owned and sailed her Flicka
extensively. We live in central Kentucky and are planning to trail
Oui-1 to new places around the country as we gain more experience and
confidence.
Phil
