The boom vang usually attaches at the base of the mast with the contol line
(jam cleat) at the mast base end. A nice way to attach the vang to the mast is
with a ring fitting that fits into the sail track and locks in place. The vang
on my M17 is attached to a plate under the mast base which has holes in flanges
on all 4 sides for the blocks that lead the halliards, topping lift, single
point jiffy reefing lines, and boom vang to the cabin top. Having all the
lines cleated at the edge of the cabin on either side of the hatch is great for
single handing. My tiller extension allows me to steer while tending the lines
on the cabin top.
