I just visited west marine, and am very confused about the sail slug
ordering.
Can anyone give me the exact item I should order to get the right item to
convert to sail slugs from the mainsail bolt rope? Doesn't have to be
Westmarine, of course!
I see the thing called "Battcar" and all I can think of is that it has
something to do with the "Battcave" and the "Battmobile" and Robin, and the
commissioner...
Too late for me, I think!

I don't know what size fits your mast but I've found that SS bails on
non-heeled slugs snag less than plastic bales and heeled slugs. But all types
work
and when fitted properly let the sail drop mostly by itself to the deck
without snagging and without lubrication. Don't get too hyped up about picking
the
"wrong" slug, just make sure it isn't tight in the mast.

As mentioned by others you will need to install grommets (tooth
grommets)...or polyester/nylon straps in the bolt rope tape. Shackles can be SS
 or
plastic. Plastic works fine on small boats...use screw types (not press
together
types), don't over tighten the screws and they won't crack as easy later in
life. Slugs can also be seized to the grommet with twine if you want
functional
simplicity.

Is your mast track opening above or below the boom? Hopefully above...so you
can hank sails on and off without removing the boom. A slug stop will be
needed to keep the slugs contained too.
