"Probably" any solar array will need a regulator to prevent  
overcharging batteries. I checked my first one on The Old Cat with a  
good digital multimeter, and when it held steady well above the  
optimum 13.6 volts (sometimes nearly 15.0) I knew I needed one. Check  
your battery/ies when you haven't used them in a while and your array  
is in full sun. Then you'll know.
