Hi Michael,

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll have a blast with Pepperjack. I have
the same furling setup. With the working jib, it takes about 8 wraps
on the drum to furl the sail, then I have enough line wrapped around
the drum for a few extra turns - let's call it 12 wraps in all when
the sail is flying. I use a rail-mounted block on the pulpit to make
the turn, then a cleat mounted on the genoa track to tie the line off
mid cockpit. With 30' of furling line, I've plenty of extra with this
setup.

Installing the furler itself wasn't a huge deal. The hardest part
(for me) was getting the darn thing straightened out after shipping.
Winding the extrusion the opposite way was definitely a two person
job, and it had to sit like that for a few days before it lay
straight. After that, it was cutting to length, then installing the
halyard - no problems there, as long as you get that little halyard
ferrule in the track properly. I did the installation with the mast
up, using the jib halyard as a temporary forestay. After the
extrusion was cut to length, I just slipped it up the forestay then
spent a while working on the hardware at the bottom. The trickiest
part of that was getting the opening in the drum in the right spot
relative to how the furling line was lead so that there would be no
chafing of the line during furling or unfurling. That required a few
takes with the placement of the bracket on the bottom of the drum, and
the various screws, washers and the U-shaped bracket really wanted to
get lost in the pavement of the boat yard!
