I have always painted a boot stripe that borders the bottom paint and
matched the trim color of the boat. Smaller boats might have a stripe about
an inch and a half, and on larger boats I have seen up to 3 inches or more.
Now... what is the easiest way to tackle this job on a lapstrake hull?
Taping over the lapstrakes seems to be a real challenge!

Jeff
