I'm against extending String.
A URI has a conceptual "dimensionality," if you will, which I would
never see as a String given a choice. Hostnames, ports, paths,
fragment create a cloud of associated location data that is way
outside (and beyond) a String. It isn't just an extension of arbitrary
character data. Also, not for nothin':
