A friend I've been talking to is writing a book and was wondering about the Canadian system of film classification and rating, especially as it pertains to the more 'exploitation' style films. Knowing this information can help lead to learning what played where and other such things.
Here's his query:
I was trying to figure out if there was any sort of rating system or other form of registration for films that played in Canada outside of Quebec. Is Canada just kind of an open market? Are films shown in Canadian theaters unrated or or do you folks abide by MPAA ratings of something like that? If there was any kind of a classifaction board, etc. in any of the provinces outside of Quebec, there should be some records somewhere of what played in Canada when. Thanks so much for helping me out if you know.
Anyway, if anybody knows anything about this or can help point me to online resources and/or whatnot, you'd make a couple film fans (and poster collectors) quite happy. Thanks again, all.
Take care,
