In legal terms, there is something called a bailment.... when you turn something over
to another person they are required to take reasonable care of it. Like when you
check your coat at a restaurant. Even if precautions to limit liability are taken,
like posting a sign in a conspicuous place, there is still some liability.
I don't know if this could be made to apply or not.
