Well, *I* for one have some "good" news for those with posters in the clutches of Eugene. Yesterday I finally received my posters that had been "away" since the middle of May. There was a minor scare as the tube had one end open but the bad thoughts were quickly mollified as all 5 posters were there. They were, strictly speaking, linen backed, in that they were posters that had been put on linen. Be that as it may, it's nice to have them home.
I have no more info than anyone here but my impression is that this is strictly a dollars and cents issue - in that Sr. Hughes has neither. I paid, once again, to have these shipped back and that seemed to loosen the grip. There is a strange morality at work here when there is a reluctance to ask for money to return my posters but seemingly no hesitation to keep what is clearly not his for extended time periods. Happily, I have no input in passing judgments on the members of the flock, Mr. and Mrs. Karma can handle that end of the deal, as I'm sure they will.
It does make me very sad that the situation came to this point. Eugene has in the past showed an increasing talent for what he did and could likely have made an acceptable living doing it.
Not any more.
For the longest time I had difficulty grok-ing just what was meant by "goodwill" in the accounting world. I now fully understand how you *can* put a price on "goodwill" because linenback.com has now fully used up it's allotment with me and I suspect most of the internet-based poster collecting world. Never again.
I would say those with posters make the offer to pay for their return. It may seem like throwing good money after bad but it worked for me. Eugene knows how close he came with me, he was seconds away for the failsafe zone when he came through with photos of my posters. The stoopid thing about this whole affair is that it could all have been avoided with honesty and forthrightness. I'm sure most of us have "been there" at one point or another and I think most folks have a goodly amount of compassion and understanding - when they know what's going on. Mendacity, Big Daddy, mendacity is where you get into trouble...
