No one is perfect. When I did auctions with Howard Lowery (who is close to perfect!) they screwed up a bid on a Laura one-sheet that a guy had left for $3400. They didn't execute it and the poster sold for $2800. The guy was super mad and I understand how he felt.
Even though it was Howard's mistake and not mine, it was my name on the auction, and I told the guy I would do my best to find him a Laura one-sheet for $2900 plus 15%, which is the least he could have gotten it for if they had executed his bid correctly (of course the other bidder might have gone higher that $2900, or even higher than $3400, but we will never know).
That mollified him somewhat, but I think he thought I would forget it. But a year later a guy offered me a Laura one-sheet for $2500. I took it and called up the guy who was screwed at the auction and told him he had now bought it for around $850 UNDER the lowest he could have gotten it for a year before!
So sometimes these stories have happy endings, and maybe yours will too.
