Tonight is the last chance to post to this list what your bet is on
what the final price will be for the linen-backed one sheet for THE
DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (and what the reserve turns out to be). I'm going
with $16,050.99 to close with a reserve of $12,000.00 on:
ALSO, I NEED A LITTLE HELP from someone with real deep movie poster
knowledge. I just received from Mexico a one sheet for a 1962 movie. It was sold
to me as a US original, and that's clearly not the case now that I have it in
hand, but I really don't know exactly *what* it is. It is printed in English and
is the exact same image, text placement, NSS info as the genuine US original.
But, it is printed in black and white (no color at all, although the original
was full color) and -- get this -- while it measures 27"x41" the paper is NOT
white, it is a deep red and slightly heavy stock (almost exactly like the
"construction paper" we used in kindergarten to make Valentine's Day cards out
of)! I have never seen anything like this before, but I admit my knowledge
of Mexican poster practices is limited. Was this done in the early 1960's,
exactly reproducing a US one sheet, right down to the size, but only in black
and white and putting it on colored construction paper? It's the weirdest thing
I've ever seen.
