Michael,

This is an unmoderated list and sellers can send the messages they want -- within the guidelines of the post only one "for sale" message per day limit. Al went a bit too far posting two today... or was it three? Anyway, Al, make a note: The rule is 1 per day.

As for the large number of fa and fs messages, and the last minute "hurry, they're about to close" posts... well, this is one of the downsides of freedom of speech, sometimes people say stuff you don't want to hear or say it more often than you would like. That's why we have the identifiers of fa and fs or something similar that sellers are required to put on their subject line, so that other people have an easy way to pick and chose what they will read and what they will take a pass on.

I certainly agree with you that some sellers do post way too many for sale messages. I think they hurt themselves more than they realize, as many people get irritated at them and either block their email address completely or simply start deleting their constant for sale posts without reading them. They should get a clue and post one notice when the auctions begin and then one final notice when they are approaching their end... chose a time: 2 days... 24 hours... 5 hours to closing, whatever they want. But that should be it -- two messages per auction (at least in my opinion... but again, they do have a right to do more if they want to take the chance of irritating people, so long as they keep it to one per day (and combine ALL of their for sale posts in ONE message -- that's another rule).

I only post messages for MoviePosterBid.com twice a week at the most... sometimes only once a week. And, of course, the MoviePosterBid messages represent items from many different sellers, so it's not quite the same thing as one seller harping at us over and over.

As for posting a notice with only a few hours to go... normally I think this is a bad idea. The seller runs the risk of too many people not seeing the notice until the auctions are over. But hey, it's their choice. Because the MoviePosterBid messages are being sent on behalf of many sellers whose auctions are closing at different times and on different days, they will usually include some "closing in the next few hours" -- no help for that -- as well as some items closing in 5 or 6 days and everything in between.

But on MOPO we've learned over time that the best thing to do is not put up too many rules and keep MOPO unmoderated by anything expect public opinion -- but, sorry, most people don't count reports of private messages as part of the deal. Statements about "x number of people have emailed me privately about this and agree..." just don't cut it. If people want their opinion heard and considered, they need to post it in public. If enough people complain about the specific sellers who are posting fa and fs way too much, who knows? They might get the message.
