Actually it is an old restoration trick, I would say that long time UV exposure is a problem, it will fade a poster.
A short burst of Intensive UV like a  day or two  is ok, not sure you can kill a pigment ... not a living fungoid.

I was just working on a piece the other day with quite a foxing problem.
1. to arrest the spread, Strong UV like leave it out in the sun for a
full day or two,it will kill the spores.
2. A good cleaning and mild bleach bath will take most out, proceed with
caution.
