[MOPO] Any Particular Star(s) Make A Poster Hard To Sell?

(cue sounds of rolling thunder)   I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE AND THERE ARE ONLY 500!   I have had a thorough baptism of zero or pathetic sales of artists  that literally "dead in the water"  doesn't begin to describe their  appeal.  I have been attempting to move  a  plethora of items all from a collection by a consignor who collected materials of certain stars he most likely had a personal relationship with as a an indedpendent publicist for over 40 years.  And many of them were boxoffice champions  in their years as leads, but any success subsequent has everything to do with their co-stars.  Some of the names surprise but trust me,  the following have an appeal to collectors  that can best be described as inert.  Rudy Franchi  in one of his posts described an individual's auction as selling and re-selling the same 500 titles that everyone else does.   Well, with orders to liquidate collection for whatever the market price will bear irrespective of what he paid for the items three, five or even ten years ago, I can honestly say there is a reason 500 titles are recyled time and again.  Introducing scarcely seen vintage paper of titles starring well known stars is like leading that proverbial horse to water but unable to make it drink.       Below represent the most frustrating artists to move     Danny Kaye --  "White Christmas" excepted   Deanna Durbin - in spite of being one of the biggest musical stars in Hollywood, saved Universal from bankruptcy  (not by monsters, vampires, or the undead) incredible voice, and was asked by Benito Mussolini to ask Roosevelt not to intercede in WWII while Churchill asked to see her films before release...   Donald O'Connor  "Singin' In The Rain"  excepted   Ava Gardner   Burt Lancaster   Betty Grable   Robert Taylor   Jerry Lewis  (Absent Minded Professor excepted)   Bob Hope   Unless teamed up with Bing and Dorothy or to a lesser extent Lucy or Jane (Russell)  a stunning indifference to material   Frank Sinatra  (excluding Oceans 11)   Van Johnson   Red Skelton   Audie Murphy   Richard Widmark     And what remains the #1 star in this collection with unquestionable talent yet virtually impossible to move paper unless priced under $50 considering his tenure in the business   Spencer Tracy     freeman fisher 8601 west knoll drive #7 west hollywood, ca 90069 Visit the MoPo Mailing List Web Site at www.filmfan.com ___________________________________________________________________ How to UNSUBSCRIBE from the MoPo Mailing List Send a message addressed to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] In the BODY of your message type: SIGNOFF MOPO-L The author of this message is solely responsible for its content.
