** It exposes Mel for what he really is, an anti-semite.  His post DUI arrest apology would've been taken a tad more seriously if he himself had volunteered -- proactively -- the actual contents of what he described superficially as despicable behavior.  It's sad that the man who brought us "Braveheart" and the "Passion" has further isolated himself in Hollywood.  Hypocrisy is always magnified if you stand on a box saying one thing and then live a life that's completely opposite.

** Still, the film industry has a notorious history for having short memories about leading figures who have made racist comments or for engaging in past controversial behavior, e.g., Polanski, Eddie Murphy, Hugh Grant, Mark Wahlberg, Eminem, Rob Lowe, Woody Allen, Pamela Anderson, Chloe Sevigny, Maggie Gyllenhaal, etc.

** Mel Gibson has always been a "rebel" of sorts.  And he has stood out more because he's one of the few outspoken conservatives in an industry filled with liberals.  This latest episode forever removes whatever "romanticism" he may have had with women from his Oscar-winning "Braveheart" days, and puts him in league with his father, a known Holocaust denier.
