Michael: Tape stains cannot be removed with Bestine! The brown tape stains that are caused by the old cellophane tape or older masking tapes can only be airbrushed over and cannot be removed with Bestine nor bleaching, from my experience in having restoration done. Perhaps the staining can be minimized by scraping and in that event you will be removing the top surface of the paper. If I am wrong, I would be glad for someone to correct me. Older tape can be loosened to remove cellophane tape or other adhesive backed tapes with Bestine as it is a rubber cement solvent and thinner. But the brown stains left by the cellophane or masking tape will not be removed with Bestine. Michael, I feel for ya! This is why a lot of us sit back in the shadows. I have been told by a reliable source that BESTINE is the produce to use. I was only able to find it at an art supply store. I never did try it yet, but have been told to put it on with a Q-tip, let it sit on the residue, then very lightly scrap it off with a razor blade. When wet, it will change color or whiten the area, but return to normal when it dries. Might want to try it first on a cheap poster first to get the hang of it. Good luck!
