"any price" has a pretty wide berth and while I did for many years
have such item, I have few today.
seriously, if you were offered $25,000 for an item worth half that,
you'd be foolish not to sell.
I had a few pieces of art that I thought I would never sell.. but
gone they are, and for the right price to make me say "goodbye"
but I may not be representative of the hobby as a whole. One reality
is that over 40 years, I have sold tens of thousands of hi quality
items. At some point, they just become "stuff"
to go further, when you have a big house & you have your collection
displayed - it's "what great stuff"
but when you have to move, it quickly becomes "why do I have all this crap?"
I still collect actively, but would happily keep 50 items & move the
rest on & go partying instead (okay I do that anyway)
the best thing would be for me to sell the last items & spend the
money just before I take the last breath... after then it becomes
garbage anyway
