I believe it is just pure sleazy exploitation of the highest (or indeed
lowest) order. Rossellini's character is quite brutalised in the film,
but not in the way the poster suggests.
I have always wondered who would ever want that poster - certainly not
something I would want on my wall! I think the British Quad is the
nicest piece on the film, FWIW.

I am currently selling an Italian poster for David Lynch's BLUE
VELVET. The poster is a really disturbing, sick image of a woman tied
to a pool table. It appears she has been assaulted and the artwork
is pretty graphic. I was wondering if anyone on MOPO knows the story
behind this artwork. Was there a scene or scenes in the Italian
release of this film that included such a situation? Was it simply a
sleazy ad campaign designed to make the film look like a slasher film
and no such scene existed? I haven't seen the movie in years but I do
remember there was something about Isabella Rossellini's character
being attacked but I believe it occurred off-screen. Any help with
this would be appreciated. The item number on EBAY is #140189460297.
