As of right now the impact in Austin is expected to be reduced. Of course, the city is flooded with evacuees. If, however, the storm path wavers and goes in slightly south, it could be a much different picture. Here in Austin we are worried about power outages. Fortunately, the City of Austin, an altogether civilized place, owns its own utility, and it's a very good one.
So the City is fielding 40 utility crews 24-7.

But I feel sorry for anyone in Houston if it comes in as a 3 or, a low 4 - that's what someone on The Weather Channel
said was (maybe) possible.

Anderson Cooper was on CNN tonight asking his weather guy if they should go to Galveston tomorrow to report. This is one of the more dumbass things I have heard recently uttered by a TV news guy. The answer to that would be no. Houston will be dramatic enough. You won't want to be on an island 7 feet above sea level.

One day a 4 or 5 will come up through Clear Lake and Webster (where NASA is) and it's going to make Katrina look
modest.

But I don't think that will be Saturday, although this could be nasty.

Sweet Dreams,
Kirby
