I was not all that surprised at the reaction of the audience to the
photo of Charlton Heston. A good number of Academy members are likely
to be anti-NRA, and Heston was very prominent in his position as the
head of NRA prior to his death from Alzheimer's. Of course, this should
not foreshadow his accomplishments as a consummate actor.
I always remember,though, the comments of many of his fellow actors,
including Jimmy Cagney among others , that Heston had an inordinately
high opinion of himself and failed to acknowledge a lot of his peers on
the set, making him seem distant.
