Hello, I have been a dealer in many different categories of collecting over
the last 30 years. Sheet music is just like any other popular collecting field.

But like books and records there is too much junk around. Sheet Music is an
item that was hardly ever thrown away. It just sat in piano benches over the
years. A high percentage has no value and I just throw that stuff away. But
once the weeding is done what is left can be very desirable and some is
valuable. Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Shirley Temple, Astaire/Rogers sold
millions of sheets, most of it is common. I am sure that I have had over 100
copies of Breakfast at Tiffany's over the years. But try finding a 1940 Superman
Sheet Music, early Babe Ruth Sheet Music, 60's Rock 'n Roll and TV and Cartoon
Sheets, Coca Cola and other advertising related music. There are so many
rarities in these categories it is hard to count.

The Wizard of Oz with Judy is very common, the movie and play from 20 or 30
years earlier is something else. I collected Our Gang for years, not too
valuable, but try to find the Farina Sheet Music. I found two sheets at once. I
kept one and sold the other for over $100. The Superman sheet sold for over
$1,000 in the past.

Green Hornet and Batman from the TV shows should sell for over $100. The music
that you see all over the place is common. You don't often see the valuable
ones because they are rare.

All subjects were covered by Sheet Music. As pianos became less central to
entertainment over the last 120 or so years, sheet music has been produced in
much smaller numbers. Some times it is harder to find a sheet of music from
1973 than 1873.

Put it this way: I had Breakfast at Tiffany's Moon River sheet music (with
a b/w version of the McGinnis art)?that went for a whopping....$15.

?

I've sold some Disney sheet music for $20-$40 in the past and some early
(1910s and 20s) Norman Rockwell illustrated stuff for a bit more than that, but
generally?sheet music?goes for?ten bucks or less, though I
suppose there are exceptions.
