As a 3-year submitter to CGC, I couldn't have put it any better myself...
All I've heard the last few weeks is MoPoers whining about authenticating
items, and CGC is currently the most reliable source of such a thing. I
don't get it... do you guys want a system for making sure these things are
real
or not? .. is it foolproof? No, but having a more professional
perspective just might be what this particular hobby needs to get things back
on
track for sales.
To the best of my knowledge, there has never been any issues on the CGC on
Restoration and Authentication, only a considerable amount of concerns of
whether the Final Grades are either higher or lower than they deserve... If
anything, (I've said it before and I'll say it again)... it's currently the
best way to preserve the paper in its air-tight virtually-weatherproof
holder... that alone is worth the slabbing fees for this collector... I may
not be able to 'feel' the wonderful vintage paper in my greasy, oily, sweaty
hands (running the risk of permanent fingerprints, and other damage to the
brittle paper that's just about to fall apart), but at least I know that
the paper-quality is every bit as nice as it will be 25 years from now,
provided I live that long.
