What about books that have pictures of posters advertising movies? (-;
Cheers,
different story altogether. The Sears catalog can not be sent via
media mail - but a reproduction of the
1927 Sears catalog can be.

Soft-cover books can legally be sent by media mail. Books are books
whether soft-bound or hard-bound, so I think pressbooks are okay,
especially since they are called "pressbooks".
so if they are called books it's okay? - seriously?
Magazines are not supposed to be sent Media Mail.
unless they do not contain advertisements (as is the case with
American Heritage 1954-1979)
The advertising in pressbooks is defunct, so technically it's not
advertising: it's a vintage book.
doesn't work that way.
send a pressbook for Gone With The Wind.
the ads are from 1939 - and it's called a book!
and you would probably get away with it.
but it's not legal.
you could argue the ads are defunct (as if that mattered) - but a
Postal inspector could argue they are for a
movie that is in current release (on video). You could argue it's a
book - but it's is a book of
ads, text and graphics produced to promote a specific product that is
still available.

I think the key word there is "incidental." I expect they mean if
you toss in some advertising paper, press release, etc. with your
DVD or videotape, it's OK. I don't think they'd be too happy if
there was nothing else in the package besides the paper, and this
might provoke an incident.
I know of no one who has been bothered for including a catalog in
with a tape or disc -
but a Postal worker could stop the package - just because everyone
drives 5 MPH over the
speed limit in the left lane, does not mean you can't get a ticket
for doing it!
