JR, I totally agree that the hobby now needs to address and implement a formal process of provenance and authenticity certification. Maybe what the movie poster collecting industry needs is what the autograph industry already has, a THIRD PARTY independent organization, that has no financial ties to the process. All reputable autographs auction houses and dealers use one of two recognized autograph authentication services, PSA or JSA. Now there will be folks that say "they are not perfect either, they make mistakes". Well “perfection” will NEVER exist in the human race. BUT, what these organizations do provide is an INDEPENDENT set of eyes and analysis based on expertise and technology for detecting autograph forgeries. They then issue a certificate of authenticity. There are other autograph authentication services but my experience has been PSA and JSA are the best in the industry. I have collected movie posters almost as long as autographs, and I have been amazed no such “oversight” and/or authentication organization has ever been created. . But, then again the likelihood of forgeries with posters has never really been so evident as with autographs, until now. Maybe now is the time. Would be a good business opportunity for those with the appropriate level of expertise. Kevin
