Hi Nathalie,

I couldn't agree more but I've heard so much backlash against this young man
and it's really the old farts at the Academy who are trying to appeal to the
"young".  Whatever.  They should be ashamed.  I'm encouraged that Quentin
Tarantino has bought the New Beverly revival theater in LA.  Its audience is
young and he educates them with classic movies.

Cheers,
Toochis

Toochis,

I can appreciate your point of view, but did they even consider asking Sara
Karloff, Bela George Lugosi and Ron Chaney?  And what about Gloria Stuart or
Carla Laemmle or even Tim Burton?  In looking over Taylor Lautner's IMDB bio,
it seems that he has very little background in horror films.  I'll give the
young man credit for working hard, but it would have been far more respectful
to a genre that gets no respect to have this segment introduced by people with
more gravitas.  And who was responsible for compiling this montage?  Where was
Val Lewton in all this?  Why all the slasher film stuff?  Badly done from start
to finish.

I think it's more of an attempt to get genre films recognized by the Academy.
Of those 2 young people who introduced  the films, Taylor Lautner is a rising
star.  He has taken his work seriously by training hard in his voice, acting
and his body.  He is professional and grateful for every opportunity he is
getting. Also he is easy on the eyes.  Go team Jacob!
