Andrew really isn't putting the whole story out there which is very
complex, but don't get me wrong Jason Ewert was definitely pulling
some wool out there purposely which is why he was drummed out of the
hobby. But missing the light trims some of these books had isn't the
same as stripping away the back of a window card & not seeing it's a
worthless phony.
for instance, every copy of Superman #1 is not going to be the same
size, so if it was done expertly and minutely, it could possibly fool
99% of the comic people, although like John, if CGC is going to hold
itself out as an authenticator - they have to be on the ball.
That said, I will commend CGC for the way they handled it when it was
discovered. I can't commend John for how he handled it and that is
one of the big differences here as well
however, many dealers tried to get restored books graded with a
universal label.. so Jason was not alone
however, none of them tried to get forgeries graded

Rich,
Did you write this?
Andrew that isn't nearly even in the ballpark with working on the
Dracula posters and calling them authentic
It certainly is, especially when you have comic books out there
worth a lot more than the most expensive movie posters.
What if those million dollar plus comics had restoration which
wasn't detected and the books were given a much higher grade because
of that??
That million dollar comic might now only be worth $100,00.00.

i'd just like to add in light of many people's criticism of john
davis that CGC has screwed up on more than one occasion as well.
let's not forget about the jason ewert scandal, which for a
restoration expert trimming on a comic should be as if not more
obvious that detecting an S2 repro with the NSS blatantly changed.
fact of the matter is they're all out to do us a favor and service
the hobby as best they can
