You might think that this is simply another story about a wounded vet. It is. But it also about the precious nature and difficulty of independence. What is it, and what should it mean to all of us? I have a 96 year old father, and he is now totally dependent upon his caregivers, my sister and her husband and myself. I don't usually tear up over the New York Times, but I did this morning.
