It was about 1957 or 1958 - I could find out the exact date if I looked it up -
I saw Jack Cassidy and his then wife Shirley Jones - sing a program of hymns
and church songs at the East Dallas Christian Church in, of course, Dallas,
Texas. Both were appearing at the Dallas Summer Musicals at State Fair Music
Hall
in the musical WISH YOU WERE HERE. Cassidy was less well known, but Shirley
Jones was extremely well known as the heroine of
OKLAHOMA, the Fred Zinnemann film of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical. This
of course was a thrill. One of the church members
was on the board of the DSM. So there was a little Sunday evening concert
with just the two of them and a pianist!
Unforgettable.
