Hello mopo//// i was just thinking back who my eaarliest memories of
movie memorabilia sources where..
I think Larry Edminds, jerry Ohlinger, starnd Bookstore NYC, Steven
Sally,
Cinemabilia NYC, veto Stasinatis Chicago,,, Howard Rogofsky, Morrie,
Movie Gallery east meadow NY, the earlistpapers where Film Collectors
world which became Movie collectors world.. I adverstised my 1st ads
in Film Collectors world in like 77 -80
then there was filmfan monthly, starlog, fangoria, famous monsters,
cinefex,
the poster price almanac.. wow Kisch did a great job on that..
what else... pre-internet,,, was cinevent, phil suelings NYC shows,
the comic shows in Chicago and detroit.. Mulqueens shows, and the
other chicago shows by Ray Courts.
What was yourfirts introduction to memorabilia what year and how did
you get turned on to it..
I first was introduced to film about 72-73 by a old newsreel
filmmaker name Myron Gittnger who showed me his Newsreels from
paramount and movietone and all,, he had a 16mm projector... I then
also had a projector and would get free films from the library and
watch them... I decorated my booking agency office in a movie
memorabilai theme with stills and director chairs, reels and movie
posters in 1976... met some movie buffs and got the bug,, my friend
made super 8mm films and we shot stills and recorded music so it all
was related ..I then started to sell memorabilia from my office and
called it Hollywood Dream factory® and started in 1977.. i also sold
costiumes and special effects props and makeup, for fimmakers and
halloween was a natural..
My friend lee Sanzenbacher brought me in some 1920s photoplay movie
mags in like 1976 and sais this should fit your theme of your
business so i sold many magazines of movie types.. Lees son is # 18
of he Chicago bears Dane Sanzenbacher which iscool even though im
not hip to sports..
anyways i am curious about the old timers and new kids of Mope how
they got into collecting and how they found others back before movie
memorabila was so accepted.
Debbie reynolds and the MGM auction of 1970 was the point where i
could see it started bigtime,, before that it was just fans that
seemed to save things,
and props and all where not saved much. Its intersting where all the
stuff has ended up..
would love to hear some storys.
