I don't think asking a simple question or requesting more details on the
event is being insensitive.

The news video link Brek provided just triggered a desire for more
information. After all he did post the link to the news video. The
words/phrases I used in my posts ("loss is monumental.and so very tragic,"
"sorry about his terrible loss," "I don't mean to sound critical or
unsympathetic") certainly are not insensitive.

If Brek took my posts that way, I'm sorry. That certainly wasn't my
intention.

First off, I think you guys really are being insensitive to Brek's massive
loss. Of course he wishes he had done so much differently, but now is not
the time to tell him that.

I can tell you that this has caused a fair number of consignors to send me
large consignments. I have had some major consignors who had never planned
to sell anything in their lifetime, but after a theft, or a fire, or a
broken pipe, or a flood, changed their mind in a hurry and gave me some or
all of their collection. And all told me later that there was a major sense
of relief once they no longer had to worry every time they left their house
that their collection would be there unharmed when they returned.

Jeff,

I should have figured as much.a fire that gigantic would obviously affect
adjacent businesses. I certainly did not mean to criticize poor Brek.but at
first read the situation sounded similar to storing dynamite at a match
factory. Again, I'm so sorry about his terrible loss.

immediate vicinity or adjacent were also damaged or lost. One guy
interviewed said his company / building/equipment were also consumed by this
fire. He suffered a total loss as well.

But after watching the video I have to ask..why was a collection of highly
combustible paper collectibles being stored at a sawdust factory? Brek.a few
more details, please?
